KANDIYOHI COUNTY, Minn. — Officials have identified the man who went missing while kayaking in western Minnesota late Saturday night.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office said 39-year-old Shane White, of Overland Park, Kansas, left his vacation rental on the south side of Nest Lake near Spicer in a kayak alone around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

An open water and shoreline search began just after 10:30 a.m. Sunday and later that afternoon officials located the missing kayak. White is described as 6-foot-2, 230 pounds and was wearing black shorts and a black t-shirt.

The sheriff's office is asking the public to avoid the area around CR 9 on the west side of Nest Lake as multiple agencies take part in the search effort. Officials are also requesting that property owners check shorelines and outbuildings. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 320-235-1260.
