Mountain Lake teen drowns in southwestern Minnesota

The 15-year-old started struggling while swimming in Sanborn.

SANBORN, Minn. — A 15-year-old boy drowned Sunday afternoon at Mound Creek County Park in southwestern Minnesota, according to the Brown County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities reported that the Mountain Lake teen began swimming, started to struggle, and then went underwater and didn't resurface. Witnesses saw the drowning occur around 3:30 p.m.

First responders from Springfield, Cottonwood, Sanborn, Windom, Centra Care, Life Link, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) helped Brown County Sheriff's Office recover the teen.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner has not officially named the teen yet, but a GoFundMe account set up to help his parents with funeral costs identifies the 15-year-old as Camron Keosaykham.

A family friend started a GoFundMe for the parents of Camron Keosaykham, a 15-year-old who drowned at a family celebration on Mother's Day.

"Camron and his family wanted to spend Mother’s Day as a family at Mound Creek," the post on the GoFundMe reads. "The day started off with lots of laughs and grilling before we all went swimming. Camron was doing what he loved. He loved swimming and being with his friends. Camron unexpectedly drowned and passed away while swimming in the lake."

The organizer goes on to share that the teen's unexpected loss has left his family heartbroken and dealing with shock and grief.
