MPD investigating fatal shooting in north Minneapolis

Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting, according to police.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating after a man was fatally shot in the city's north side.

Officers were responding to a shooting on the 4200 block of Penn Ave N just after 4 p.m. when they found a man suffering from gunshots in the alley, according to the MPD.

The man died at the scene.

On Saturday, officials identified the victim as 18-year-old Isaiah Khalel Goodwin of Anoka. His cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

A preliminary MPD investigation indicates the man who died had been in an "interaction" with another man that escalated into gunfire.

Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting, according to the MPD.

“This senseless violence is tragic and unfortunate, but I am confident our investigators will work hard to determine what happened and arrest those responsible,” said MPD Chief O’Hara, in a press release.
