MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) investigators are looking for suspects after two men were fatally shot within a two hour period Thursday.

The first murder occurred on the 1100 block of Morgan Ave. N shortly after noon, according to MPD Chief Brian O'Hara.

MPD officers in the vicinity heard gunshots and responded to the scene, where they found a man in his 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation from the MPD suggests that an argument escalated at the location with more and more people arriving before gunfire erupted.

Police believe the argument involved people who knew each another.

The second fatal shooting occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on the 100 block of West Lake St.

Officers were initially called to the scene on reports of a potential overdose, but they instead found a 27-year-old man who had been shot, according to the chief.  The man was taken to an area hospital where he died.

Police later said the man who was killed is associated with a nearby homeless encampment.

The two incidents are believed to be unrelated by the MPD. As of Friday morning, there were no arrests reported in either case.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
