MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a string of violent robberies in south Minneapolis.
According to the MPD, more than a dozen robberies were reported on Feb. 10 between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. Investigators say 14 of those robberies had similar circumstances in which a group of suspects exited a vehicle and robbed people who were walking on foot.
In most cases guns were displayed and in several the victims were assaulted. Many of the armed robberies took place on the city's near south side, but incidents were reported from northeast Minneapolis as well.
An email sent out by MPD indicates at least eight of the 14 robberies involved suspects who showed up and left in a grey SUV that had been stolen earlier that day.
On Monday MPD confirmed an additional armed robbery that took place around 12:30 a.m. on the 2500 block of Grand Ave. S. The report says a woman called 911 and reported that her daughter had been robbed at gunpoint by five to six teens who were wearing masks. They arrived and escaped in a vehicle with no description.
In the report police note that the crime was similar in nature to those that took place Saturday night.
"If you are approached by an armed individual or group of individuals who demand your valuables, focus on as many details as possible. Important details are license plate numbers, vehicle description, height, weight, sex, race, hair color, and hairstyle of individual suspects, clothing descriptions of suspects, and the number of suspects with their direction of travel," said the MPD in a release.
The description of the suspects from robbery victims varies, but many described a group of 3-6 men and women who in most cases were wearing masks.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
