Volunteer coaches needed for Girls on the Run

Volunteer coaches utilize a curriculum to engage teams of girls in fun, interactive lessons.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Volunteer coaches are needed this spring for Girls on the Run, a local nonprofit that inspires girls in 3rd through 8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident.

The 10-week program teaches critical life skills, encourages personal development and fosters team building and community service.

Volunteer coaches utilize a curriculum to engage teams of girls in fun, interactive lessons. Girls on the Run Twin Cities serves girls at more than 200 locations across the Twin Cities, Rochester and Northfield. Girls on the Run is in need of more than 850 volunteer coaches to ensure that 3,400 girls will have an opportunity to participate in this transformative program this season.

Volunteer coaches facilitate fun, research-based lessons to small teams of girls, who typically meet after school twice a week for 90 minutes. The program culminates with all teams participating in a celebratory 5k event on June 1. Individuals must be 18 years old to serve as an assistant coach or 21 years old to serve as a head coach; both men and women are invited to apply.
