WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn — Inspired by the success of her book, "Ashti Meets Birdman Al", Carmen Rubin wrote her first stage play to unite artists and communities through the power of music. Ashti's "Journey to Jazz" is about a little girl and her mother who meet an old jazz musician who has the blues because a school's music program is in jeopardy.
The production has just three more shows beginning Thursday at the Hanifl Performing Arts Center in White Bear Lake.
Composer and performer Thomasina Petrus, actor CC Kramer and the woman who wrote it all —Carmen Rubin— joined KARE 11 News at Noon to discuss the play.
