What are the benefits of Dry January?

The rules are simple: don't drink alcohol during the month of January.

Many of us have set our New Year's resolutions to be healthier.

Whether it is to work out more, lose weight, or eat healthy, all of these resolutions could get off to a great start with a Dry January.

Dr. Abigail Miller, chief medical officer at UnitedHealthcare, came into the studio to chat about the Dry January trend and the potential health benefits.

The rules are simple: don't drink alcohol during the month of January. Some of the benefits include lower blood pressure, lower weight and cholesterol, and better sleep and energy levels.

To avoid temptation, UnitedHealthcare recommended keeping alcohol out of the house, finding a substitute drink or bringing your own drinks to events. Participating with friends or family can also keep you committed to achieving your goal.

Try Dry: The Dry January app is also available for participants to set goals and track calories and money saved.
