Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations come to St. Paul

Monday, Jan. 15, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the Ordway will host free performances.

ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul will honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy this coming weekend with a myriad of service and celebration events. 

The events will span Jan. 11-15. Minnesota's first Chief Equity Officer Dr. Stephanie Burrage came into the KARE 11 studio Wednesday to talk about the upcoming celebration, titled "One Dream. One Minnesota." 

On Thursday, there will be a half-day conference for equity practitioners. Dr. Yohuru Williams with the Racial Justice Initiative at the University of St. Thomas is the keynote speaker.

Friday features a youth empowerment summit and STEM career fair at the Science Museum and 3M Innovation Center. 

On Saturday, organizers are encouraging people to volunteer at a nonprofit. Also, the state of Minnesota is hosting a career fair from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in St. Paul. Classes on resumes and career management will be offered. 

Sunday will host multicultural and multifaith gatherings called "Connections for Hope" in several locations around the state. 

Then Monday is the official Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and features a variety of group performances. The Ordway Center for Performing Arts will host free performances from the Robbinsdale Area Schools FAIR School, Crystal Student Choir and Dancers, Billy Steele and the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
