MINNEAPOLIS — Ramadan has begun. For those participating (or for those in the mood to try some great halal food), Holy Land has you covered.
Holy Land is a bakery, grocery, restaurant and catering specializing in Arabic, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean foods. Executive Chef Samer Wadi visited the KARE 11 studio to chat about the significance of food during Ramadan and their restaurant options.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when many Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset. The month is often a time of giving, religious reflection and family gatherings.
Per the restaurant's website, they offer halal options, referring to foods that were chosen and prepared in accordance with Islamic law. For example, pork is not halal but other meats can be depending on how the supplier prepared it.
The restaurant notably highlights vegan and gluten-free items as well. If you're looking to try a taste, check out the Holy Land storefront on Central Avenue in Minneapolis or click here for the website.
