Morris Day to lead Paisley Park celebration of 'Purple Rain'

It's been 40 years since Prince released the iconic song... that deserves a celebration!

CHANHASSEN, Minn. — Can you believe it's been 40 years since Prince released the iconic "Purple Rain"?

Music and fashion have changed since then, but the song carries a timeless quality, even acknowledged by Apple Music on its top ten albums of all time. Paisley Park aims to honor the song with fans and fellow musicians at the Prince Celebration 2024.

Morris Day will perform as the event headliner, alongside The Revolution, NPG and Taj Ferrant. Day attended high school with Prince in Minneapolis and the two performed in a band together as teens. He then became a founding member of Prince's band, The Time.

The Celebration will take place June 20-24 with a purple block party, screenings of the "Purple Rain" movie and performances from the listed artists. The block party will start at noon June 22 at the Prince mural in downtown Minneapolis.
