National Read a Book Day

Director of Reading Corps, Maren Kioga, joined KARE 11 News at Noon to discuss Read a Book Day and how people can become tutors at Minnesota schools.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — September 6 is National Read a Book Day and it's a great opportunity to get kids reading early and often so they are prepared for the classroom. 

Reading proficiently by third grade is an indicator of future academic and personal success, but parents can begin introducing reading as early as infancy.

Service Activities

  • Help students be successful in school
  • Help students recover from learning interrupted by the pandemic

Age Groups

  • Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

Service Terms Offered

  • One year
  • One semester

Time Commitment

  • Full-time – 35-40 hours per week
  • Part-time – 18-30 hours per week
