Minneapolis event promotes AAPI art and local businesses

The event aims to highlight local AAPI-owned businesses, food vendors and performers.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota has a long and rich history of Asian American and Pacific Islander peoples, and an upcoming event aims to honor that history and highlight local art, culture and businesses.

The event, called "Roots and Routes: An Asian Artistic Exploration of Identity and Heritage," will take place Jan. 20 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Hewing Hotel in Minneapolis. There will be locally owned shops, food vendors and Twin Cities drag performers.

Roots and Routes is hosting a raffle and will donate the proceeds to the Asian American Organizing Project. The nonprofit organization works to address issues facing young Asian Minnesotan communities, particularly for LGBTQ+ and women/femme-identifying people.
