MINNEAPOLIS — A popular bakery in north Minneapolis is closing its doors due to "economic changes," according to Thirsty Whale Bakery owner Kyle Baker.

A post on the business' social media pages said the shop — located at 4149 Fremont Ave. N. — stopped serving patrons its "tasty snacks" Sunday, as Baker wrote he does "not see a way" to continue.

"This year has been especially hard for everyone, our small business is no exception. I have made the very difficult decision to close the bakery effective 12/03/2023. It's been extremely hard to keep up with the economic changes and I do not see a way for us to continue to operate the same way as we have," Baker said in his post.

Cake orders made through Dec. 23 will be fulfilled and available for a scheduled pick up, the post read. And additionally, any Christmas cookie order placed through the Thirsty Whale's website will also be fulfilled.

Orders intended to be picked up after Dec. 23 cannot be completed, Baker said. He asked for patience as the business works to refund those customers in the coming weeks.

"Thank you for all of your support over the years," Baker said in his post. "We want to thank you for your business and beautiful community that we have gotten to be a part of but above all, we want to thank our staff. The team that we had was the best I have ever been a part of and will forever be grateful for the time and energy they gave."

Baker said any questions regarding orders will be addressed via email at thirstywhalebakery@gmail.com.

KARE 11 has reached out to the Thirsty Whale for comment, but has not yet heard back.
