DULUTH, Minn. — Ahhhh, Minnesota: To know her is to love her.
With nicknames like the Land of 10,000 Lakes and the Land of Sky Blue Waters, it should come as no surprise that a beach nestled along the shores of the largest freshwater lake in the world — right here in Minnesota — would land among a list of fellow greats.
And the folks at Travel + Leisure Magazine agree — that's why it named Duluth's Park Point Beach on Lake Superior one of the 25 Best Beaches in the USA.
"For the past few years, Park Point Beach has been recognized by Travel + Leisure as one of the top 25 beaches in the United States, and we’re thrilled to see this Duluth gem remain on the updated list," a spokesperson for Visit Duluth said in a statement Tuesday. "Visitors and residents alike know the beauty of this special place, along with the city’s other unique beaches. We look forward to welcoming visitors to experience Park Point Beach —and all Duluth has to offer — this summer and beyond!"
Boasting the world's longest freshwater sandbar, Park Point joins other destinations like Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii; Coronado Beach in San Diego, California; Clearwater Beach in Florida; Glass Beach in Port Townsend, Washington; Gulf Shores Public Beach in Alabama and others, on Travel + Leisure's list.
The publication said it looked at criteria like sand and water quality, ease of accessibility, while also considering the beaches' surroundings.
