Officer injured in Burnsville shooting released from hospital

Adam Medlicott was hospitalized after the shooting that claimed the lives of two of his fellow officers and a firefighter/paramedic.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — We're learning more about a Burnsville police officer injured in the shooting that claimed the lives of two other Burnsville officers and a firefighter/paramedic on Sunday.

Sgt. Adam Medlicott, 38, was injured and hospitalized after the shooting. On Monday, Burnsville officials said Medlicott was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was treated and released on Sunday, and now is continuing his recovery at home.

Medlicott has had a decorated career in law enforcement, being named Burnsville's 2020 Officer of the Year.

“Officer Adam Medlicott’s courage, knowledge, empathy and trustworthy nature have been an asset to our department, his fellow officers and members of the public," Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz said in a news release at the time.

The announcement noted that Medlicott has served in the Burnsville Police Department since 2014 in various roles, including as a patrol officer, drug recognition specialist and field training officer. he was promoted to sergeant in 2022.

Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth were killed in Sunday's shooting, as officers were responding to a domestic abuse call. Police said the gunman also died; that gunman was prohibited from possessing firearms as the result of a 2008 2nd-degree felony assault with a deadly weapon conviction, according to court documents.
