BURNSVILLE, Minn. — When you have a baby on the way, the last thing you want to worry about is if you can afford baby clothes.
There is a group of volunteers that are working to make sure that isn't a problem. The charitable organization, Bundles of Love, handcrafts essential donations for new parents and caregivers in Minnesota.
Volunteers make 25 items which are distributed to various organizations that give the bundles to families in need.
Each of the "Bundles of Love" includes a diaper bag, afghan or blanket, quilt, two gowns, sleepers, t-shirts, flannel sets (including a receiving blanket, burp cloth, bib, wash mitt), a jacket or sweater, pants, hat, toy, bunting and mittens in the winter. The package includes a donation of diapers, baby wash and wipes.
The vision for Bundles of Love is that every newborn has access to the basics. In 2023, the organization distributed over 5,600 bundles.
The website lists 11 different locations to volunteer across the state. The Burnsville location averages 135 to 160 bundles per month.
There are many ways to help out, including weekly sewing circles and monthly bundle assembly. Each location has different meeting times and needs, click here for more information.
If you aren't crafty, there are other ways to volunteer including fundraising, donating and hosting baby showers.
