ST PAUL, Minn. — Editor's note: The video above first aired on KARE 11 on Jan. 4, 2024.
For the past 35 years, the folks at St. Paul's Tavern on Grand have served up cozy comfort foods, Minnesota-style.
But this June, they'll serve their final famous wallet filet, and piping hot bowl of wild rice soup, in the city's Summit Hill neighborhood.
The restaurant announced its closure in a Facebook post Thursday, thanking customers, the community and staff for their "love and support."
"We are thankful to have been like a home to many over the years with memories to last several lifetimes," the post read, in part.
The restaurant said it'll close sometime in early June and encouraged its loyal patrons to come visit, reminisce and "celebrate a great run."
The news comes after several other businesses recently announced they'd close up shop and leave Grand Avenue, including Salut, Pottery Barn, Lululemon, et al.
KARE 11 spoke with Grand Avenue Business Association President Chris Jensen earlier this month, who said the vacant buildings can be viewed as an "eyesore," but he's still optimistic about what's coming for the area in 2024.
"Grand is a destination. It's St. Paul's Main Street," Jensen said. "So many different varieties make Grand Avenue the destination that it is."
