SHAKOPEE, Minn — Two people were hospitalized after the plane they were in crashed in Shakopee.
The Shakopee Police and Fire Departments are responding to the scene at Scenic Heights Park, according to the city's Facebook page.
The park is located near the East Middle School, which was temporarily placed on hold, according to a statement from a Shakopee district representative.
"After the event, classes and school continued as normal including standard dismissal time. We send caring thoughts to those impacted in the landing." said the statement.
The city is asking people to avoid the area around the park as first responders manage the scene.
There are no other reported injuries at this time, according to the post, which added that federal investigators will be joining shortly.
Chad Piotraschke’s backyard faces Scenic Heights Park. He was out walking his dog when the plane crashed. Originally, he thought it was a toy plane.
“I looked up and was like that was way too big for a remote-control plane,” he said.
He said the tiny plane later brushed the top of trees and then crashed nose-down.
“Both the pilot and the passenger were conscious, but I think they both took a hard hit in the upper body and head,” said Piotraschke.
When the plane was going down, he was also worried that it would land in his backyard or damage his home.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
