PLYMOUTH, Minn. — A piece of Plymouth history is about to open to the public once again after being closed for several years.

The Plymouth Old Town Hall closed during the pandemic after a water pipe burst, but staff used the time since to make repairs on the historic building, reorganize things, catalogue items, reimagine programming and give the space an overall makeover.

Plymouth traces it's history back to the pre-Columbian period inhabited by the Dakota. Antoine LeCounte settled in the area in 1852, building the first cabin at what is now East Medicine Lake Boulevard at 29th Avenue North, the city states on its website.

The Old Town Hall was built in 1885 and served as the community's municipal building until the 1970's. Today you'll find the historic site on Fernbrook Lane N, by community parks and a playground.

Now that the city's historical museum is ready to open to the public again, Plymouth is hosting an open house. The event is happening on Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is will a ceremonial door opening and then people can explore the space. More details on the event can be found by clicking here.

After the grand reopening, the Old Town Hall will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the first Saturday of every month, according to the city.
