ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Paul police say their officer is doing well after being shot in the face with a pellet gun during a standoff.

The officer was identified Saturday as Michael Talley, an 18-year veteran of the force. Talley was struck in the cheek by a high-powered pellet rifle during a Friday afternoon standoff.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Talley and another officer responded to a call of a mentally ill man who was threatening suicide. The man ran inside and fired the pellet gun out a window when police arrived.

The man was identified as 53-year-old Robert Scott Wood.

Wood surrendered after barricading himself in a home for two hours. He was later arrested by a SWAT team.
