OAKDALE, Minn. — Officials released more details after a suspect fired shots at officers, sparking a standoff at a home in Oakdale overnight Monday.
Oakdale Police said they responded to a domestic report involving someone in a car with a gun. Officers tried to stop the car but the suspect didn't stop and ran into a house on the 100 block of Graystone Ave., where they fired at officers.
Officials say at least one Oakdale officer fired their gun before the suspect barricaded himself in the residence. A woman and a baby were located inside a the vehicle unharmed, according to a press release.
Oakdale Police Chief Nick Newton said tensions were high because of the recent incident in Burnsville where a man shot and killed three first responders after barricading himself in a house with seven children.
"At the heels of what happened in Burnsville, when a call for service comes out like this police officers from all over are gonna respond," Newton said. "We're very thankful for all the agencies: St. Paul, Washington County, Woodbury and numerous other agencies that responded to help us."
A shelter-in-place order was ordered for the surrounding neighborhood but has been lifted as of Tuesday morning.
KARE 11 photographer David Peterlinz was at the scene and witnessed armored vehicles roll through the area with SWAT officers and state troopers who had their guns drawn.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office indicated that the address was known to them — indicating there likely were prior incidents.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is available.
