PWHL MN players back home after winning first ever women's championship

Minnesota PWHL are champions after beating Boston 3-0 Wednesday night.

MINNEAPOLIS — The PWHL Minnesota hockey team is back home after winning the first ever PWHL Championship Wednesday night.

Players landed at MSP around 2:00 p.m. Thursday wearing silver chains and championship t-shirts.

“I still really haven’t slept from last night,” player Taylor Heise says. Players say it’s a feeling that is hard to put into words, literally.

"I think a lot of us have lost our voice from screaming so much last night,” goalie Nicole Hensley says.

"Lost my voice from last night, so, it's been crazy,” forward Brooke Bryant says.

Players thought they were champions on Sunday.

In game four they scored the winning goal in double overtime, only to have the goal called back by the referees.

"That was like getting your heart ripped out of your chest a little bit. When you have that feeling and it gets taken away from you, I think you just want it more. I think for us we came out and had a pretty dominant performance,” Heise says.

The team prevailed in game five, beating Boston 3-0 and earning their place in the history books.

"It just means so much to the state and to be able to bring it back home is unreal,” Bryant says.

Team officials say the players are scheduled to make an appearance at Thursday night’s  Timberwolves game at the Target Center.

The team is also hosting a celebration in downtown Saint Paul Friday night from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
