RED WING, Minn. — A woman is okay after getting out of her car before it was struck by a train in Red Wing.
The collision happened Tuesday morning near the 400 block of Levee Road, Red Wing Police Chief Nick Sather said in a press release. That's near the Red Wing Depot and Levee Park.
A pedestrian flagged down a patrol sergeant to say a car was parked on the train tracks. Within seconds of that report being made, Sather said the train struck the car.
Luckily, no one was inside the car. Sather said its driver, a 32-year-old woman, told authorities she was trying to turn onto Levee Road but wasn't paying attention and accidentally drove onto the tracks. She got out of the car in time to avoid being struck by the train.
