The transgender woman who was violently attacked earlier this week at a Minneapolis light rail station remains in stable condition, according to Metro Transit.

She is also communicating, according to Minnesota State Rep. Leigh Finke.

Finke tweeted an update Friday night, saying she spoke with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty about the attack and she's "confident" in Moriarty's "commitment to the case."

Finke, a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, made history last fall when she was elected as the first-ever openly transgender person to serve in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

The victim of the assault, which occurred Tuesday, Feb. 28 at a south Minneapolis light rail station, suffered a rib fracture, collapsed lung and cranial bleeding as a result of the attack. She was taken to HCMC in critical condition before being stabilized.

Two men, Kevin York, Jr., 23, of St. Paul, and Keaten Morris, 19, of Minneapolis, were each charged with first-degree aggravated robbery, in addition to third-degree assault in connection with the attack.
