MANKATO, Minn. — After days of heavy rain, trees and other debris are causing issues for people in southern Minnesota, closing roads and pushing rivers and lakes out of their banks.
MnDOT posted a range of closures and advisories online and on social media.
Many of the closings are located on Highway 169 in Blue Earth County and areas around Mankato. On Monday night, officials said Rapidan Dam had "partially failed," but added the dam is "still intact and there are no current plans for a mass evacuation."
Here is a partial list of roads closed in Minnesota on Tuesday:
Hwy 169 from Le Sueur to Hwy 22 (Dodd Road) in St. Peter closed: Hwy 169 from Hwy 99 south of St. Peter to Mankato remains CLOSED. Traffic between Mankato and Le Sueur is detoured to County Road 13, Hwy 99, County Roads 40, 5, 20, 8 (6/25 6:55 a.m.).
ALL exit and entrance ramps at Hwy 169/Lookout Drive in Mankato/North Mankato are closed: The city is constructing an earthen dike to help with rising water from the Minnesota River. Drivers should find an alternate route.
According to MnDOT, the areas flooded but not closed on Highway 169 include:
- South Avenue in North Mankato
- Between Mankato and North Mankato
- North, southbound exits to Lookout Drive
- Between St. Peter and one mile south of Le Sueur in both directions
- Between Mankato and St. Peter
A Flash Flood Warning is also in place for Blue Earth County on Tuesday morning, due to the erosion of the riverbanks on the Blue Earth River.
