Saints cancel Friday's home opener

The game will not be made up and the grounds crew will now work to prepare the field for Saturday, March 30, which will be the new home opener.

The St. Paul Saints have decided to cancel their season opener on Friday.

Weather is to blame for the cancelation, according to the Saints.

"Make that Mother Nature 2, St. Paul Saints Home Opener’s 0. For the second consecutive season snow is the reason the Saints won’t play their home opener," said the press release from the team.

"So many great memories, but none of them include snow on the field,"  Saints General Manager, Derek Sharrer told KARE on Wednesday.

CHS Field grounds crew used heavy machinery to plow snow off the field but the "roughly foot and a half of snow" that fell on the field made the facility unplayable for the scheduled opener.

The game will not be made up and the grounds crew will now work to prepare the field for Saturday, March 30, which will be the new home opener.
