The Saint Paul Police Department has arrested a suspect in the case of a woman who said she was sexually assaulted and robbed in her Mac-Groveland home on April 15.
The man was arrested after law enforcement agencies executed search warrants in Stillwater and Maplewood on Thursday morning, according to a SPPD spokesperson.
He was then booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of criminal sexual misconduct, first-degree burglary and kidnapping, according to the SPPD.
"The neighbors came together, we as a community came together, we all work together to make that neighborhood safer," said SPPD Chief Axel Henry.
According to St. Paul police, officers were called to a home in the 300 block of Snelling Avenue South just after 4:30 a.m. on April 15 for a report of a sexual assault.
Officers spoke to the adult victim when they arrived in the area. She said she was sleeping when she heard someone pounding on her home's side door.
Then an unknown man tried to force his way into her home.
Police said the suspect stole money from the woman before pulling out a weapon and sexually assaulting her.
The suspect fled the home and the woman called 911, police said. Fire medics took the woman to Regions Hospital to be evaluated.
Officers secured the area and searched the neighborhood for the suspect, but were unable to find him at that time.
Heather Foxx lives nearby and walked past police tape the day this happened.
"As a woman lives here, I was taken back, I was first shocked," said Foxx.
It left her with uneasiness on her walks. But tonight, she will sleep better.
"I am glad that there's some justice that's happened," she said. "I think all of us feel a sigh of relief."
