SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Police are investigating after a man died following a shooting on Saint Paul's North End.

According to Saint Paul police, officers were called to the area around Woodbridge Street and Wheelock Parkway just before 10 p.m. after multiple people called to report shots fired and a person being shot.

Officers said they found a man lying on the ground near the intersection with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers gave the man first aid until Saint Paul fire medics arrived to take the victim to the hospital.

Officials said the man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Regions Hospital. His name and cause of death will be released by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.

Sgt. Mike Ernster said officers searched for witnesses on scene but weren't able to find any. He asked anyone who may know anything to contact Saint Paul police at 651-266-5650.

Investigators are still working to figure out what happened prior to the shooting.

"It's concerning when anyone fires shots in our city," Ernster said early on Sunday morning. "Our investigators are going to do everything they can to identify this person and hold them accountable."

Ernster noted this shooting was the second in Saint Paul within a 24-hour period and emphasized the need for witnesses to come forward and aid investigators.

"We need people to call us. Sometimes they [investgators] can't do all of this on their own. Physical evidence, video evidence and the help of our community is what really makes these cases come together and hold people accountable," Ernster said.
