Back by popular demand: Saint Paul Public Libraries harnesses power, popularity of laser loon

The library system announced it's offering members a free, limited edition library card featuring the popular laser loon state flag design submission.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Editor's note: The video above first aired on KARE in November 2023.

It wasn't a winner when it came to the Minnesota state flag design contest, but the laser loon is still No. 1 in some hearts — particularly the ones who run Saint Paul Public Libraries.

The library system announced it's offering its members a free, limited edition library card featuring the popular laser loon design submission, while supplies last. Anyone interested in snagging one can visit any of St. Paul's 13 library locations with their photo ID and proof of address.

“The response for the design that was inspired by the submissions was overwhelming,” said Claire Huber, SPPL's marketing and communications specialist. “And we are responding with a limited-edition library card and limited supply of special merchandise from The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library.”

Those who come away with a laser loon card will also get 15% off for The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library's online shop, which you can use to publicly show your support with a variety of merch, including a laser loon canvas book bag or t-shirt.

“The Friends is thrilled to see the enthusiasm for the library,” said Kim Horton, senior director of communications at The Friends. “We are excited to offer a selection of Loon-inspired merchandise and give people an easy way to channel that excitement into support for their library.”
