ST PAUL, Minn. — In the heart of Saint Paul, the Sanneh Foundation stands as a testament to the tireless commitment required to care for a community.
Founded by Tony Sanneh, a former professional soccer player and St. Paul native, this foundation has become synonymous with being good neighbors and fostering a sense of community where everyone is welcome.
"We're developing and changing attitudes in some communities through access to play," said Sanneh, emphasizing the transformative power of engagement and play.
From after-school programming to offering wholesome meals and mentorship, each of the Sanneh Foundation's initiatives is crafted with the goal of empowering kids, improving lives and uniting communities.
Sanneh highlighted the impact of the foundation's free soccer league on Saturday mornings, accommodating 1,200 children and offering a space that transcends financial barriers often associated with traditional club teams.
"Normally you don't even get to go in the dome unless you play for a club team that costs $4,000 or $5,000 a year," expressed Sanneh, underscoring the foundation's role in providing a joyful and accessible outlet for children.
"It doesn't seem that cool now, but when there's 3 feet of snow and it is -10 [degrees]? Like, this is a Godsend. And kids need to be kids. So, yeah, I got good teachers here."
Every service, smile and experience provided by the Sanneh Foundation serves as a helping hand to the community of Saint Paul, creating a solid foundation for individuals to grow and thrive.
Recognizing the profound impact of the Sanneh Foundation in Saint Paul, the TEGNA Foundation selected the Sanneh Foundation as a grant recipient.
The cycle of giving, exemplified by these organizations, stands as a remarkable testament to the spirit of good neighbors.
