MINNEAPOLIS - No cause has been determined for a fire that was reported early this morning at the homeless encampment in Minneapolis.
This is the second fire to be reported at the encampment in 10 days.
The fire was reported just before 1 a.m. on Friday. Six tents were damaged. Minneapolis Fire Department's Deputy Chief Todd White confirmed that no one was injured. There were reports of propane cylinders exploding prior to the arrival of fire rigs, but at this time the cause of the fire is officially listed as undetermined.
Despite growing safety concerns in the camp Mayor Frey says the city won't shut down the camp until a new "temporary navigation center" opens up a few blocks away. It would provide 120 beds inside heated tents. The center was originally supposed to open in October, but logistics pushed it back to early December.
The Minneapolis Fire Department is investigating the second fire to find out its cause.
