MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating after three people suffered gunshot wounds in Dinkytown early Friday morning.
According to the University of Minnesota safety notifications, the shooting occurred at 2:15 a.m. near Fourth Street SE and 13th Ave SE. Minneapolis police and U of M police responded and found a 22-year-old man suffering from a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers provided medical aid until paramedics arrived and took the victim to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.
Investigators subsequently learned that an 18-year-old man was dropped off at the same hospital with a gunshot wound thought to be non-life-threatening. Just over a half-hour later a 17-year-old boy was dropped at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital and told staff he had been shot.
A spokesperson from the University of Minnesota confirms none of the victims are students at the university.
Minneapolis police spokesman Sgt. Garret Parten says the early investigation indicates that several people were fighting near the intersection when gunfire erupted.
The intersection where the shooting took place is right outside student nightlife hot spots Frank From Philly & Andrea Pizza and Kollege Klub Dinkytown. Both locations close at 2 a.m. on Thursdays.
As of Friday afternoon, no arrests have been made in the case. If you have any information on the shooting or those responsible, contact Minneapolis police at 612-673-3000.
