EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — A spring snowstorm is quickly approaching the Twin Cities – our first real snowstorm of the year. It will bring heavy, wet snow with it.
It's also bringing business for those whose jobs are based on the snow.
"Yes, I can't wait," Chris Halvorson, owner of Northstar Outdoor Services, said. "It'll be a fun one."
Halvorson and his crews have been awaiting any sort of winter this entire season. This year hasn't provided them with that – until now. KARE 11 caught up with the team as they were prepping a commercial parking lot Saturday afternoon.
"There's a lot of pent-up demand, we've been sitting around, we've bought new equipment, we've hired people, we've trained, we've done it," he said. "We know this could be for sure our biggest event of the year, could be as big as anything we saw last year."
After last year's winter, Halvorson and his team were ready to hit the ground running. Instead, they switched to landscaping services before they saw this storm coming in.
"Making sure all the equipment's refueled from last night and the guys are home resting as much as possible," Halvorson said. "Those big events are always the funnest."
It's a chance they needed. Equipment isn't cheap, and they repaired and bought more equipment after last winter.
Now, they're getting ready to do what they do best.
"The equipment's expensive, and now most of it has sat idle all winter," Halvorson said. "Thankfully, we get one good final push here to finish the season."
