St. Cloud State acting president announces departure

Larry Lee became acting president just weeks ago after the early exit of President Dr. Robbyn Wacker.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The revolving door of leadership is spinning again at St. Cloud State University.

SCSU Acting President Larry Lee announced in a letter to colleagues Tuesday that he will leave the university to become president of Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois.

"I care deeply for St. Cloud State University and have cherished the trust that faculty and staff have bestowed upon me," Lee wrote in his letter. "I have enjoyed developing solutions to our challenges in partnership with all of you, and I believe wholeheartedly in a bright future for this University. I’d love to stay and see it from the inside, but instead will enjoy watching SCSU flourish from afar."

Lee's tenure in the president's office at SCSU was always meant to be temporary; St. Cloud State announced in April that former Illinois State University President Larry Dietz was selected to serve as SCSU's interim president starting on July 1.

Lee said he will continue to serve as acting president until Dietz arrives; Lee's last day at the university will be in mid-July.

Lee joined St. Cloud State University in 2022 as VP for Finance & Administration. He was named acting president earlier this month after Dr. Robbyn Wacker stepped down as president several weeks earlier than planned. It was then up to Lee to announce a new series of planned budget cuts at SCSU, including trimming several majors and faculty positions.
