St. Louis Park man receives 6-year sentence for fatal crash on Hwy 55

David Boll ran a red light while speeding in the turning lane and broadsided Catie Caron in September 2023.

MINNEAPOLIS — A man who killed a 68-year-old woman on the highway after already receiving a second chance from a judge was sentenced to prison Friday morning.

Judge William Koch sentenced David Boll, 50, to six and a half years in prison for the death of 68-year-old Catie Caron.

The crash happened last September on Highway 55 in Plymouth. Boll was in the turning lane while speeding, and he went straight instead, right through a red light, smashing into Caron's car, killing her.

Boll was on probation after another judge already gave him a second chance -- on an assault charge in which he beat his sister with a skateboard and told police he thought he killed her.

Caron's family gave tearful victim impact statements in court, saying Boll needs to go to prison.

"I pray that the sentence today prevents any innocent person in a family from experiencing the mental PTSD I and others do on a daily basis following this event that was caused by free will," said Andrew Caron, the victim's son.

In addition, Boll had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash -- which he was prescribed because of traumatic brain injury.
