HOPKINS, Minn. — A St. Louis Park man is dead after authorities say he was struck in the lanes of traffic Saturday night.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 7 near 12th Avenue North in Hopkins, Minnesota State Patrol said in an incident report.

The pedestrian, identified as 28-year-old John Patrick Gunderson of St. Louis Park, was struck by the driver of a Toyota Camry.

A State Patrol spokesperson told KARE 11 "alcohol was suspected to be present in the pedestrian." The spokesperson would not give further details on the circumstances of the crash.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Gunderson died due to injuries sustained in the crash and ruled the death accidental. They added the crash happened "just east" of the Highway 7 and 12th Avenue North intersection.

The driver of the Camry was not hurt, and the incident report says it's not believed the driver was drinking.
