NORTHFIELD, Minn. — St. Olaf College is offering a new financial aid package for Indigenous students to attend the otherwise pricey school.
In a press release Tuesday, the college stated it would cover full tuition with grants and scholarships for Indigenous students from Minnesota with family incomes under $150,000. For students with family incomes between $150,000 and $200,000, the college committed to covering 90% of tuition with grants and scholarships.
“At St. Olaf, our commitment to heal this legacy of injustice and work toward honest storytelling is ongoing as we strive to live out our Land Acknowledgement,” said President Susan Rundell Singer. “To further this work, the Indigenous Student Affordability Commitment is a step to increase access to higher education and sustains our community by continuing to meet the demonstrated financial need of every Ole."
The St. Olaf Indigenous Student Affordability Commitment is available for students who are enrolled members or citizens of a federally recognized American Indian Nation or Canadian First Nation.
This announcement follows a similar program with University of Minnesota schools implemented in 2022. This tuition program promises full coverage of tuition for qualifying students with a family income of less than $125,000.
