St. Paul launches Library Passport Program

Visitors will present their passport at any of the city's 13 public libraries to get a sticker, with the chance to win prizes if they collect enough.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Editor's note: The video above first aired on Nov. 28, 2023.

Having a passport can open the door to learning about different people, places and cultures.

And in St. Paul, there's a new adventure to embark on without leaving the country. Friends of the St. Paul Public Library and the Minnesota United FC are launching a "Library Passport Program" with the goal of increasing visits to all 13 libraries in the city system.

Here's how it works.

  • Go to any one of St. Paul's 13 public libraries and pick up a passport.
  • At each library you visit, go to the front desk and get a special sticker for that location.
  • Visitors can also complete each of four bonus challenges to earn an additional sticker.
  • Once a passport holder has a minimum of seven location stickers, they are eligible for a library merchandise starter kit.
  • Collect all 13 location stickers and a passport holder can be entered to win the St. Paul Pride package.
  • Get all 13 location stickers PLUS the four bonus stickers and be entered to win The Ultimate Loon package, which includes tickets to a Minnesota United game, warm-up watcher passes and a swag bag.

“Libraries today are community hubs and places of connection to information, books and materials, and to each other," said Saint Paul Public Library Communications Manager Stacy Opitz in announcing the program. "We’re excited to welcome more people into our spaces through the passport program, including those who may not have visited a library in a while and show them everything we have to offer.”

To be eligible for prizes, passports must be completed between May 15 and Aug. 15. Winners will be drawn and the prizes announced after that date.
