St. Paul man charged with armed robbery of postal workers

Court documents say the man approached two letter carriers with a gun and stole mail and vehicle keys.

ST PAUL, Minn. — A St. Paul man is charged with armed robbery after he allegedly held up postal employees at gunpoint.

According to a news release, court documents say that 26-year-old Rubin David Adams went up to a USPS letter carrier in Edina, pointed a gun and asked for the mailbox key on Nov. 18, 2023. The employee didn't have a mailbox key but gave Adams the keys to two USPS vehicles.

The next day in Brooklyn Center, court documents say, Adams approached a different USPS letter carrier, pointed a gun at their head and stole two USPS mailbox keys.

“This is part of an alarming trend that law enforcement is seeing around [the] country, including here in the Twin Cities,” said U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger in the release. “We take this issue very seriously and will continue to ensure postal employees are safe and free from violence as they serve their communities.”

Adams is charged with two counts of assault and attempted robbery while putting a person’s life in jeopardy with the use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, Adams could spend up to 25 years in prison since the robbery victims are postal workers.
