ST PAUL, Minn — Although the new Minnesota Yacht Club music festival hasn't happened yet, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter says he certainly wouldn't mind having it back in town.
"Our hope is that this comes back," Carter said. "Our hope is that people get a chance to just see what St. Paul has to offer."
Over the next two days, Visit St. Paul says nearly 30,000 people are expected each day to see a stacked lineup, including Alanis Morissette, Gwen Stefani and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
"One of the biggest events we've seen in a decade, really looking forward to it," Carter said. "This is enormous for the city, it's no secret some of the challenges the downtown's across the planet have had in the post COVID reality."
It's been a herculean task to get Harriet Island, the location of the festival, cleaned up and ready in time.
"Two weeks ago, this park was underwater, and we're watching the flooding and telling folks, 'stay away from here,'" Carter said. "While at the same time, hoping to get out of here and get set up and things like that."
Grounds are now clear, and tickets are still available on the Minnesota Yacht Club's website. If you're excited for the festival and lineup – you're not the only one.
"I have to say, Trombone Shorty is a family favorite as well though, been watching them for a long time," Carter said.
