St. Paul police investigate shooting death Monday night

St. Paul police said the homicide occurred just before 8:30 p.m. in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood.

ST PAUL, Minn. — A man was shot and killed Monday night in St. Paul's Payne-Phalen neighborhood, police say.

St. Paul Police said in a press conference that officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. after a flood of 911 calls to reports of a person shot on the 800 block of York Ave. On arrival, they found a man in the yard of the home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers attempted lifesaving measures until St. Paul Fire medics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead on the scene. On Wednesday, police identified the man as 35-year-old Jonathan Diaz of St. Paul.

Homicide investigators are looking into the shooting and trying to determine who is responsible, according to police spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster.

At this point there have been no arrests.

If you know anything about the shooting or who is responsible, call 651-266-5650. The victim's identity will be released on the St. Paul Police X account
