ST PAUL, Minn. — Saint Paul Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight.
Department spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster said officers were called to the area around Thomas Avenue and Grotto Street North just before 1 a.m. after multiple reports that someone had been shot. When officers arrived, they didn't find a victim.
Another 911 caller told police the victim was being taken to Regions Hospital in a private vehicle, Ernster said.
A short time later, the vehicle arrived at the hospital with a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officials said the man - later identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner as 41-year-old Robert James Brown of St. Paul - died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Officers secured the scene of the shooting in the Frogtown neighborhood in the hopes of preserving evidence and began to search for people who may have seen what happened.
Sgt. Ernster said police think "a lot" of people saw what happened, based on information from 911 callers. Officials ask anyone with information to contact police at (651) 266- 5650. Police don't believe this crime was random.
As of Friday, April 5, police said that no arrests have been made in the case, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
