ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul police say a person has died as the result of a two-vehicle crash in St. Paul's Como Park neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
The department said on social media the crash, involved a Nissan Sentra and Acura MDX, happened at the intersection of Maywood Street North and Orange Avenue West just after 3 p.m.
SPPD reported that when officers arrived, they found the 40-year-old driver of the Sentra, and her 18-year-old passenger, unconscious inside the vehicle. A short time later, the driver was declared dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the Acura, two 16-year-olds, suffered minor injuries. Police said they were evaluated at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.
On Friday, the victim was identified as Melissa Kaltveit, of St. Paul.
A police spokesperson told KARE 11 preliminary information indicates the Sentra did not stop for a stop sign and entered the intersection without yielding to oncoming traffic.
Police added their investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains open and ongoing.
