MINNEAPOLIS — Officials said a 35-year-old man is in jail after punching a State Trooper Friday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., a Minnesota State Trooper stopped to check on a man standing outside of a stalled vehicle in the area of eastbound I-94 and 3rd Avenue in Minneapolis.

Troopers said a 35-year-old man was a passenger in the vehicle and had gotten out when the driver stopped on the shoulder of I-94.

He was showing signs of impairment, officials said.

When the man got back into the vehicle to leave the area, officials said he punched the trooper in the face.

The man was then arrested and taken to the Hennepin County Jail. Officials said charges are pending.

No information has been released about the severity of the trooper's injuries at this time.
