CHASKA, Minn. — Thousands of people throughout the metro were experiencing power outages Monday evening after a storm came through the area.

Xcel Energy is reporting clusters of small groups of homes without power all over the region, especially in areas of Bloomington, Columbia Heights, Woodbury and Maplewood.

In Chaska, police said on social media that power lines are reported down and stoplights are not functioning properly. Crews are working to restore power as well as clear debris from roads.

When power is out, Xcel Energy says it's a good idea to keep the doors to your fridge and freezer shut as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature. The company also reminds people to stay away from downed power lines.
