St. Paul's Suni Lee honored by Glamour Magazine as Woman of the Year

ST PAUL, Minn. — Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Suni Lee is being honored by Glamour Magazine as a Woman of the Year. 

"After winning gold at the #Olympics in Tokyo, the gymnast battled inner demons, online critics, and kidney disease to make it back to gold-winning glory at the 2024 Paris Games," the magazine said in a social media post. 

Since 1990, Glamour has been honoring women from various backgrounds, "trailblazers, rule breakers, visionaries, and champions who have defined each year." Lee is being honored in 2024 alongside Serena Williams, Pamela Anderson, Taraji P. Henson, Sydney Sweeney, Hadley Duvall and Kaitlyn Joshua, Allyson Felix, and the moms.

In 2023, Lee was diagnosed with two rare kidney diseases, ending her collegiate career at Auburn. Despite being bedridden at one point in December, she returned to training in January and eventually found herself competing in her second Olympic Games.

In Paris, Suni Lee won gold as part of the Women's Team. She won bronze on uneven bars and women's all-around. On July 30, 2023, 'Suni Lee Day' in Minnesota and the City of St. Paul.
