MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — A former daycare teacher in Maple Grove has been criminally charged after he allegedly groped a 9-year-old.

According to the charging document, officers were initially called to a report of the child saying they were inappropriately touched by a teacher at their school on Aug. 12.

The child's parents told officers they noticed the child's behavior was off over the past several weeks. The child allegedly told their parents that one of their teachers, who has been identified as 38-year-old Ryan Vaughan, had been inappropriately touching them.

The child said that Vaughan had told them not to tell anyone about the inappropriate touching.

Vaughan is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Vaughan was fired from Tutor Time, the facility he worked at, according to a statement from the company.

"Immediately upon learning of the allegations, the staff member was placed on administrative leave. Following our protocols, we reported the matter to the appropriate authorities and have provided our full cooperation when contacted regarding their investigations. The employee has since been terminated. Additionally, prior to the staff member's employment, Tutor Time completed required background checks, including a review of state-maintained abuse registries, which did not reveal anything that would preclude his employment or raise red flags," said the statement.
