Rooting for the underdog: Team rescues MN pup after 60-foot fall in MI park

ALGER COUNTY, Mich. — A Minnesota pup barked up the wrong tree — or rather, down the wrong cliff — falling 60 feet in Michigan's Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park on Wednesday.

A post on the park's Facebook page said 3-year-old Dancer was with her parents when she came out of her leash and fell from the cliff to a ledge below. Park officials said Dancer's owners searched the area for hours in an attempt to locate her, but ultimately called off the search, fearing she hadn't survived the fall.

According to the post, park rangers caught wind of Dancer's predicament later that night, pushing the local Superior High Angle Rescue Professionals (SHARP) into action. The next morning, the team searched high and low for Dancer, who was finally located and recovered from the ledge along the shores of freezing Lake Superior the following morning — cold, but still alive.

Rescuers reported that Dancer was "excited" to see them, and was soon reunited and recovering with her family.

“With this year’s mild start to winter, many areas of Pictured Rocks are more accessible than they are most years,” Chief Ranger Joe Hughes said in the post. “It is still important to remember to be prepared for slippery, cold conditions that can change quickly.”

In the wake of the event rescuers dubbed Dancer a "professional troublemaker," but here at KARE 11, we prefer "good girl."
