MINNEAPOLIS — Thousands of people gathered outside TCF Bank Stadium Sunday to protest the Washington Redskins team name.

The University of Minnesota estimates that 3,500 people attended the rally. Organizers said they expected it to be one of the largest rallies since the 1992 Super Bowl at the Metrodome where thousands also protested as Washington took on Buffalo in the NFL's championship game.

"I'm hoping that people see we are unified, that there are thousands of us that care about this," said Tara Houska, a board member with Not Your Mascots.

But not everyone rallying outside of TCF Bank Stadium was opposed to the name. A group of people gathered to protest the protest, saying they find the term honorable, not offensive.

Robert Doore, a member of the Blackfoot Nation in Montana, has been outspoken about his support of the Redskins and their name.
"I'm supporting my football team," he said. "We have a lot of issues within Indian country that precedes a football name."

Doore says he's gone out to reservations around the country and says the majority of people tell him they support the Redskins.
